About the painter

From an early age I had a keen interest in drawing - in particular aeroplanes, and would spend hours with tracing paper copying out of books. While going to a country school during my primary years in Gisborne, art was a subject that was developed well by the different teachers that I had - I think this contributed greatly to the interest I now have, as during my high school years I did very little art. Upon leaving high school, I joined the Royal New Zealand Air Force as a technical tradesman, and my involvement in art was still intermittent, however there was opportunity for various mural work related to aircraft. Towards the end of my service in the airforce, I began to paint more frequently, with an interest in native birds in particular.

I was encouraged by two artists in particular, Brian Badcock and Rick Edmonds, who I am grateful to for their interest and positive critiques.

My subject interest is primarily landscape at the moment, with trees often being a centrepiece. I wish to present to the observer of my art, something which adds beauty to their experience, and brings glory to our Creator God, who is the greatest artist of them all!
